Seminari de Teoria de Nombres de Barcelona

This is a seminar organised every year by Pilar Bayer, with the participation of all members of the larger group consisting of researchers in Number Theory of the three universities UB, UAB and UPC. Additional information in STNB (UB-UAB-UPC).

The first 11 editions consisted of about 60-hour lectures distributed along the academic year. The topics discussed were:

• 1986-87: Rational points on algebraic curves
• 1987-88: Serre's conjecture on modular Galois representations
• 1988-89: Modular curves and the Eisenstein ideal
• 1989-90: Galois structures of Hodge-Tate type
• 1990-91: Algorithms in modular curves
• 1991-92: Arithmetic surfaces
• 1992-93: 1) Galois representations of dimension 2, and 2) Chow motives
• 1993-94: Preliminaires to the Fermat-Wiles theorem
• 1994-95: 1) Modular forms and Galois groups, and 2) Torsion points on Elliptic curves
• 1995-96: Modular elliptic curves
• 1996-97: Automorphic representations of GL(2)

Since its 12th edition the STNB is a one-week meeting. Normally it takes place in late january in the premises of the Facultat de Nautica de Barcelona. The topics discussed have been:

• 1999: 1) Embedding problems over large fields, and 2) The Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture
• 2000: 1) Abelian varieties with complex multiplication, and 2) Introduction to crystalline cohomology
• 2001: 1) Shimura curves, and 2) Geometric techniques in Cryptography and Coding Theory
• 2002: Drinfeld modules
• 2003: 1) Theta functions, and 2) Explicit computation of rational points on algebraic curves
• 2004: 1) Two-dimensional Galois representations; conjectures of Artin, Serre and Fontaine-Mazur, and 2) Dessins d'enfants
• 2005: 1) Curves of Genus 3, and 2) Sieve methods
• 2006: Special edition 20th anniversary. 5 lectures on Elliptic Curve Cryptography by Neal Koblitz, and several lectures on the occasion of Pilar Bayer 60th anniversary.

EuroConference Modular Curves and Abelian Varieties

The Conference Modular Curves and Abelian Varieties took place at the Centre de Recerca Matemática (Bellaterra, Barcelona) from July 15th. to July 18th. 2002.
